John Wilding, a devoted horologist has produced a work of outstanding international interest. In this book he illustrated the construction of the clock, step by step instead of simply describing the process involved.

John Wilding was making and restoring clocks for his own pleasure for many years, his interest stemming from his school days.

This clock is a truly excellent weight driven 8 day wall clock, the movement of which, if so desired, could be fitted in a long case.

In the opinion of expert horologists it is a work in the highest tradition. Not only absorbing to the maker but so designed that it can be produced with the minimum of equipment. In their view this work will find a permanent position on horologists bookshelves throughout the world.

Unlike some previous works, it is written in such a concise, practical and step by step manner that the reader is made to feel that he/she is sitting beside the author during the actual making of the clock.

For those readers who wish to make the clock yet do not have the facilities for cutting wheels and pinions, full details are given to sources of supply, as they are for all the raw materials required.

The movement is not overly complicated, be it for the student or those with greater experience.

After having seen the Clickspring series on making a John Wilding Large Wheel Skeleton clock, I decided to attempt to build my own clock, in this case settling on the John Wilding Weight Driven 8 Day Wall Clock, due to it's simplicity (this would be my first attempt at horology).

Reading the book was a real pleasure. I spent about 3 solid days / month working on this project, and I had it completed in about a 1.5 years. Much to my satisfaction, it started running on the first push - and it continues to run without fuss.
